Mad Science Season

Splice Team member Jonalyn Andreou, had the pleasure of working alongside Emily Booth (Presenter of Horror Channel) and Zuzka Markova (Promo Producer) for this particular season.

Without going over the top and carefully researching the films that were going to be screened in February, Jonalyn wanted to create a sleek yet tongue and cheek laboratory and surgery room, (Garth Marenghi came to mind). Being influenced from a stargazed Kraftwerk and Gary Numan soundtrack to classic fonts that had that 'Hair Metal' sheen and colour gradient, Jonalyn collected various references to produce the final look of the Mad Science Season.

She started by purchasing chicken feet, pigs ears and tongues to pack into large glass jars. Jonalyn, also hired laboratory equipment and surgical utensils from the National Film Theatre and Medical Film Props. She also collected, framed specimen and taxidermy from her friends. To help promote the films, Jonalyn teamed up with Zuzka, they hit upon the idea of labelling particular jars with film titles to promote the Mad Science Season.

Jonalyn knew what she wanted and set about helping to get the lighting perfect, she wanted reds, blues and greens - the kind you get from an 80s pop video, but without the colour bleeding throughout the film. She also used dry ice for the laboratory set.

Watch Horror Channel’s Mad Science Season and enjoy 80's cult classics, Re-Animator, Scanners, Basket Case and Class of Nuke 'Em High.
